Day of Arafah

يوم عرفة

9 Dhu al-Hijjah every year

The Day of Arafah falls on the 9th day of Dhu al-Hijjah, the day before Eid al-Adha. It is considered one of the most important days in Islam. For Hajj pilgrims, standing at the plain of Arafah (Wuquf) is the most essential ritual of the pilgrimage — the Hajj is not valid without it. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: 'Hajj is Arafah.' For non-pilgrims, fasting on this day is highly recommended, as it is believed to expiate sins of the previous year and the coming year. The Day of Arafah is also when the verse 'Today I have perfected your religion for you' was revealed. Muslims around the world spend this day in prayer, supplication, and remembrance of God.
