What is the Day of Arafat?
The Day of Arafat (يوم عرفة) is the most important day of Hajj and one of the most sacred days in the Islamic calendar. It falls on 9 Dhul Hijjah, the day before Eid al-Adha.
- Pilgrims stand on the Plain of Arafat from noon until sunset in heartfelt supplication
- Allah forgives sins on this day more than any other — the Prophet (PBUH) said: “There is no day on which Allah frees more people from the Fire than the Day of Arafat” (Sahih Muslim)
- “Hajj is Arafat” — missing this day invalidates the entire pilgrimage
- “The best dua is the dua of Arafat” — a day for abundant supplication and remembrance of Allah
Fasting on the Day of Arafat
For those not performing Hajj, fasting on the Day of Arafat is one of the most rewarding voluntary fasts in Islam.
The Prophet (PBUH) said: “Fasting on the Day of Arafat expiates the sins of the past year and the coming year.”
— Sahih Muslim 1162

La ilaha illallah wahdahu la sharika lah, lahul mulku wa lahul hamdu wa huwa 'ala kulli shay'in qadir
“There is no god but Allah alone with no partner. His is the dominion and His is the praise and He is over all things capable.”
— Narrated by Tirmidhi
